The artist behind former President Obama's painting for the Smithsonian Institution is also famous for paintings that depict black people beheading white people.

If this is the type of artist Obama supports, what does that say about him?

From thegatewaypundit: The artist who painted former President Obama’s portrait for the Portrait Gallery, part of the Smithsonian Institution, has an interesting past. While reviewing previous works by artist Kehinde Wiley, it was discovered that he has a great fondness for painting black women beheading white women. The pieces are oddly both titled “Judith beheading Holofernes”, referencing a story in the Book of Judith, involve a beautiful woman who seduces an invading general before he is able to destroy their land, gets him drunk, and then decapitates him.

Typical artists from the Rennaissance era have placed Judith in the role of a scriptural savior, “a type of the praying Virgin or the church or as a figure who tramples Satan and harrows Hell.” Given the historical context and how Wiley recreated it in his works, is hard to interpret his use of this theme as anything other than a blatant statement of racism; black women are the powerful angels of the earth, conquering the white devils.

Their main question: Is that really her?

“Michelle Obama is an elegant lady and the portrait looks nice. But clearly, the artist drew someone else,” Dr. Eugene Gu, a health care columnist for The Hill, tweeted.

Conservative commentator Ben Shapiro tweeted, “LOVE the new portrait of Michelle Obama” -- and attached an explosively colorful painting of abstract art.

While most agreed the image was striking, Twitter went to war over whether it looked anything like Michelle Obama. The verdict varied widely, from positive responses to confused reactions to concern that the portrait did not live up to the subject. “Ugh…does not do a powerful, beautiful woman justice,” one user wrote.
