Secretary Pompeo says that the United States wants to see a major disarmament from North Korea within the next two years.

While Pompeo didn't give a specific deadline, or timeline of events, the Secretary of State did say that they expect “major, major disarmament” steps to take place before Trump's first term in office is over. While critics will be sure to say that isn't soon enough, they should keep in mind that no disarmament occurred over the course of the past decade.

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said Wednesday that the U.S. wants to see North Korea to take major steps toward nuclear disarmament within the next two years.

Although he wouldn’t disclose a specific timeline, Pompeo told reporters in Seoul that the administration is hopeful that “major, major disarmament” steps will occur before the end of President Trump’s first term in January 2021, the Associated Press reported.

After Trump’s meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in Singapore on Tuesday, Pompeo urged skepticism of North Korean media’s claims that Trump agreed to a step-by-step approach to denuclearization.

Pompeo said “one should heavily discount some things that are written in other places.”

Pompeo also said that he will be taking the lead in the continued process once things get started. The Secretary of State also said that talks will proceed between the United States and North Korea sometime within the next week. The world looks forward to when this is finally over, and according to what Trump has said since his meeting with Kim Jong Un, North Korea could turn out to be a great ally in the future.
