Georgia Democrat and Gubornatorial candidate Stacey Abrams says she may challenge President Trump for the White House in 2020.
Georgia Democrat Stacey Abrams may bypass a Senate run in 2020 and gun straight for the White House, announcing to supporters that she is seriously considering running for President.
Abrams contradicted her own assessment at the South by Southwest (SXSW) conference in Austin, Texas, on Monday, when she indicated the earliest she would run is 2028.
“In the spreadsheet with all the jobs I wanted to do, 2028 would be the earliest I would be ready to stand for president because I would have done the work I thought necessary to be effective at that job,” Abrams said.
Later in the day, Abrams tweeted that “2020 is definitely on the table.”
On the heels of Hillary Clinton’s 2016 defeat, and a party currently cheering for Beto O’Rourke to pull them out of the Trump blues, Abrams, who lost her gubernatorial race in Georgia during the midterms, would make an excellent addition to a tradition of offering up electoral losers as the face of the Democrats.
This may be the craziest 2020 Democratic primary we’ve ever seen.
